They though that Colin was actually 4 weeks early and his lungs were just not ready yet.

It was hard seeing him in there but at that time we new that he would be ok and hopefully would only have to stay for the night.

Colin’s Birth Story

I have to admit that I have been awful at keeping the blog updated since I have been pregnant with Colin. So in order to remember the events of Colin’s birth and the weeks following I have decided to do a recap.

Friday July 3rd

Friday was a busy day for the Cheney family. Uncle Marcus had been staying with us and left earlier in the week for Colorado so it was time to get Colin’s room in order and take out all of the baby gear (there is a lot of gear) Mima was over and made us dinner. Matt and I were watching the Nationwide race when I started having my contractions. They started off pretty close together at 7 minutes and then quickly went to 5 minutes apart. When I called the nurse to see when I should come at around 12 she said that I needed to come right away because I was not 37 weeks yet. So we called Mima and she came over to stay with Cooper and Matt and I left for the hospital.
On the way there we got pulled over at a DWI checkpoint. However once we told them I was in labor they let us go right away. When we arrived at the hospital they hooked me up to the monitor and let me know that I would be staying. Soon after I got into my room the contractions felt like they had stopped completely. The doctor cam in to break my water to try and get things moving but no luck. I then got my epidural and pitocin. It seemed like everything was going so slow which was strange because with Cooper it went so fast. The last time the doctor checked me she said we were ready to go and one push and Colin arrived on the 4th of July! 7 lbs and 21 inches long. Shortly after we realized that Colin was grunting. They decided to bring him down to the NICU to get checked out.
Sadly that was the start to my little man’s long journey ahead.

Last weekend Cooper turned 18 months! I can’t believe it has been a year and half already! It has gone by so fast. We spent the weekend at Mima’s for Easter where Cooper loved coloring eggs, eating peeps, chasing bubbles and playing with his new ball. He is all over the place these days. Running around, tormenting the dogs, climbing on all the furniture and of course wanting to do everything that Matt and I do. Even trying to talk on the phone is a task since Cooper wants the phone. Cooper loves to give kisses and is all about trying to feed himself now but we can only do that at home when we know the bathtub is near by. Cooper and Daddy spend most of their days playing, napping and going out to lunch. They are going to try a new music class this week.

I am almost 26 weeks with Colin and he has been moving around like crazy now. This pregnancy is going faster then I expected it to but still not fast enough for me of course! Cooper still does not understand that there is going to be another baby around and we are little nervous on how he will react as he is very protective of me and doesn’t even like when Matt hugs me. Hopefully we will be wrong and he will love being a big brother.

Here are some recent pics! Enjoy…

OK it has been way to long since the last update and I missed some major holidays.

The holidays were quiet. We spent Thanksgiving and Christmas at my parents house and it was just the 5 of us. Cooper loved Thanksgiving of course because it involved food! The kid pretty much eats anything but his favorites include bananas, chicken nuggets, yogurt, apples and fig newtons. Cooper still didn’t understand the concept of opening presents at Christmas but as soon as they were open he loved playing with them. Cooper got a radio flyer super coup car, table and chairs, a ball pit, and lots of other toys. Can you say spoiled?

Cooper has been growing like a weed and is testing everyone. He is very mobile and into everything. He loves dancing on the fireplace and is a huge fan of music. Words now include Mama, Baba, and Ball. He gives kisses and hugs now which makes it so hard to get mad at him when he disobeys.

Oh and one other thing Cooper is going to be a BIG brother. I guess it is not really new news as I am already 16 weeks. I am due on July 29th. Hence the reason I have been such a slacker with updating as my first trimester I wasn’t feeling very well.

Check out the most recent pics of Cooper!

Cooper turned 1 last week and we had a great weekend! He has a little birthday party and received wonderful gifts. We got him his own personal cake which he LOVED! He was so determined to get the cake in his mouth. He actually ate to much cake and was up most of the night with a tummy ache. Nina and Papa came in from Michigan for the big event. We could not ask for a better day the weather was gorgeous.

Cooper also started really walking the day before his birthday. He had taken his first steps a few weeks prior but now he is walking everywhere!
